The claim

For thirty years, every enterprise software cycle has asked the same trade-off of the business: bend your work around the software, and in exchange, get scale.

The shape of the work, the language of the work, the timing of the work: all of it has been moulded to fit the software. ERP. CRM. The procurement suite. The contract management system. The expense system. Each one a category, each one demanding that the business adapt.

The systems we are building reverse that direction. The software adapts to the work.

This is the category-defining claim. Everything else this company does is downstream of it.

The founding story Named firms held pending approval

Beyond Work was founded in May 2024 by Christian Lanng, Joakim Recht and Malte Højmark-Bertelsen. Three disciplines that rarely sit at the same table.

Christian had built and scaled the largest enterprise trade network in the world, and held the contrarian view that the AI shift would be captured by the firms that already own the enterprise relationship, not by the software vendors selling into it.

Joakim had been one of four Distinguished Engineers, working on the infrastructure underneath systems that were not allowed to fail. Named firms held pending approval

Malte is a cognitive scientist. He trained a Nordic language model two years before ChatGPT shipped, at twenty-four, and his subject is how people reason and decide.

That third discipline is the one people miss. The central design decision in this company, that AI designs the system of work once and returns only where judgement is needed, is not a marketing position. It is what you get when someone whose training is in human judgement is in the room while the architecture is being drawn.

The thesis followed from all three: the right unit of work is not the agent and not the model. It is the typed, versioned, schema-bound Workblock.

We started with one partner firm and a half-built platform. Since then, a partner network, a production Library, and Applied Work running in the world.

The human promise

The work in the enterprise will not become less human. It will become more human, because the work that did not need humans will be done by the platform, and the work that did need humans will be the focus.

We are not building the system that replaces the operator. We are building the system that lets the operator be the operator they wanted to be when they joined the firm.
